CSU Dominguez Hills

Dominguez Hills is located in the city of Carson, near the South Bay beaches of Manhattan and Hermosa, and minutes away from Los Angeles and Orange County cultural and recreational attractions: LA Music Center including the Dorothy Chandler Theater, many major museums and art galleries, ballet and music offerings throughout the vicinity, Catalina Island, Disneyland, Griffith Park & Observatory, the Queen Mary, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios (to name a few).

The campus is located near major freeways, airports, and mountain resort areas, and its proximity to business and industrial centers enhances the university's quality service to students.

Although in an urban setting, Dominguez Hills is far less congested than other nearby universities.

CSU East Bay

The San Francisco Bay Area provides a host of cultural art centers, museums, theatres, and professional sporting events. The campus location is close to major freeways that provide easy access to San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.

CSU Fresno

Metropolitan Fresno, with its population of 478,000, has a friendly "big town" feeling that is enhanced by multicultural richness. This community is the home of the Fresno Metropolitan Museum and numerous other galleries and live theater groups.

CSU Fullerton

The College of the Arts provides a wide variety of cultural attractions showcasing student and faculty talent, as well as guest artists. A professional artist-in-residence series brings celebrities to campus to interact with students and faculty members, and offers public performances at Performing Arts Center. Additional information about events is available at (714) 278-3371.

Associated Students Productions is another source of on-campus entertainment. ASP events include noon concerts in Becker Amphitheater, singers and comedians in The Pub, and celebrity performers in Portola Pavilion. In addition, cultural events hosted by various student organizations and campus programs are held throughout the year. The Fullerton Arboretum is a joint effort of the university and the City of Fullerton. Featured are a 26-acre botanical garden and the 100-plus-year-old home of Orange County pioneers. Plants from all over the world are displayed in mini-ecosystems that mimic the various native habitats.

Humboldt State University

Humboldt State University is in the middle of the picturesque city of Arcata, which is very much a "university town." Humboldt is also an area focal point for music, theatre, and art. Our Center Arts program, which has been cited as a "model in the West" by the National Endowment for the Arts, brings world-renowned and culturally diverse talent to the campus with more than 50 events staged each year. There are seven local theatrical groups in the surrounding area and the historic Minor and Arcata movie theatres within Arcata. The city of Arcata also offers the Natural History Museum, the Railroad Museum located in the historic Jacoby Storehouse, and many historic Victorian structures.

CSU Los Angeles

Located on campus is the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, a superb venue for the performing and visual arts, and the university itself offers a wide variety of theatre, dance, musical performances, and art exhibitions. In the greater Los Angeles area, we have every imaginable kind of cultural, artistic, and recreational activity within an easy drive or commute. Downtown LA, with its historical cultural areas and the Music Center, Ahmanson Theatre, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and Mark Taper Forum, is 20 minutes away. On any given evening, there are several dozen plays and musicals performing at local theatres. The world famous Huntington Library and Gardens, the new Getty Center, and scores of other museums are within easy access.

CSU Monterey Bay

A world-renowned travel destination, the Central Coast boasts attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Cannery Row, and events like the Monterey Reggae, Blues, and Jazz festivals. Historic downtown Monterey and Oldtown Salinas offer a variety of entertainment, dining, and nightlife options, and nearby Carmel and Pebble Beach have tons of shopping, dining, and golf events like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am where you can see favorite actors and musicians tee it up with Tiger and his PGA pals. Racing fans will enjoy the events at the Laguna Seca Raceway.

Cal Poly Pomona's location is ideal for so many things, including studying, social and cultural activities and recreation. CSU San Bernardino

The campus is situated north of the city of San Bernardino at the foot of the beautiful San Bernardino and San Gorgonio Mountains. CSUSB is centrally located and near to all of the resort destinations in Southern California. Disneyland, Hollywood, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, beaches, mountains for hiking, and skiing are all within one hour of the campus. Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada, are approximately three hours from San Bernardino.

San Diego State University

San Diego, the second largest city in California, is a metropolitan area with more than a million residents and a thriving cultural, scientific and educational center. San Diego enjoys the best of all worlds with beaches, bays, mountains (only 2 hours away), and Mexico all in close proximity. Living in San Diego also means being able to enjoy local attractions and events!
  • The world-famous San Diego Zoo is one of the area's most popular attractions. See some of the world's rarest wildlife, including giant panda and koalas. New at the zoo is Ituri Forest, a mysterious central African rain forest with buffalo, hippos, otters, okapis, birds and monkeys. Other unique habitats include Polar Bear Plunge, Tiger River, Gorilla Tropics, and the Sun Bear Forest.

  • Looking for an adventure? Visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park, located approximately 30 miles north of San Diego. The Wild Animal Park is an "animals first" facility in which animals roam in herds and flocks in natural habitats. Visit the Heart of Africa walking safari, ride the Wgasa Bush Line Railway, feed the birds in Lorikeet Landing, and stroll through beautiful gardens.

  • Sea World is San Diego's marine life attraction. From spectacular shows and animal interactions to world-class thrill rides, once-in-a-lifetime experiences await Sea World visitors. The park offers exhibits, shows, aquariums and adventures all focusing on animal rescue, rehabilitation and preservation. This year, Sea World opened its Cirque de la Mer, where mysterious aquatic creatures blend athletics, acrobatics, music and special effects. Visitors can also work alongside Sea World staff in the Trainer for a Day program.

  • Balboa Park, adjacent to downtown San Diego, houses breathtaking botanical gardens and over twenty museums, including the Museum of Man, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Natural History Museum, and the Aerospace Museum. Take advantage of "Free Tuesdays" and visit selected museums on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesday of each month at no cost.

  • The historic Gaslamp District is San Diego's entertainment hub with over 80 of Southern California's hottest restaurants, clubs, theatres, and galleries. You can dine, listen to music, and see a show within 16 blocks of Victorian architecture.
  • Cabrillo National Monument, Steven Birch Scripps Aquarium, Old Town, Hotel Del Coronado, and the fairgrounds at Del Mar are all on the must-see list of San Diego hot spots!

  • Don't miss the La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Opera, the Civic Theater San Diego Repertory Theatre, the San Diego Symphony and the Old Globe Theatre.

  • Every year, San Diego hosts festivals, street fairs and parades unlike any other city. Be sure to check out the Fern Street Circus, Adams Avenue Street Fair, San Diego Pride Festival, Street Scene, and the famous Del Mar Fair.

San Francisco State University

San Francisco, a favorite tourist destination, has many things to offer students, residents and visitors. Aside from popular attractions such as Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and the Golden Gate Bridge, the city is home to many museums, cultural centers, and performing arts sites. Here is a sample:
  • Music
    From classical music to reggae, San Francisco provides an array of musical entertainment year round. Some concert locations include Stern Grove, near SFSU, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Golden Gate Park Concourse, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, and the War Memorial Opera Building. Aside from these venues, the university offers concerts in Knuth Hall and McKenna Theatre, including performances by the Alexander String Quartet, in residence at the university.

  • Theater
    The City is home to many famous theaters, including the American Conservatory Theatre, where actress Annette Bening, an SFSU alumna, got her start. Other theaters include Cowell Theater, Golden Gate Theatre, Orpheum Theatre, and Curran Theatre. The Creative Arts Department at San Francisco State University hosts many critically acclaimed, low-cost performances during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Museums
    San Francisco has several museums, including the new San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in the South of Market area. Also within city limits is the Asian Art Museum, Center for the Arts at Yerba Buena Gardens, California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, California Palace of the Legion of Honor, M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, and the Palace of Fine Arts and its high-tech neighbor, the Exploratorium. At San Francisco State University, courses in the Museum Studies Program are offered in the spring and fall semesters and the school boasts a large collection of Egyptian artifacts--including a mummy--that is part of the Sutro Egyptian Collection.

  • Historical Sites
    A city with a rich history such as San Francisco is abundant with historical landmarks, including Coit Tower, Union Square, and the Mission Dolores. Sites near SFSU include the Cliff House, Sutro Park, the Presidio, and Mount Davidson. The university's history department offers classes on the history of California, the United States, and other countries. The College of Humanities offers a course on San Francisco, its history, and culture.

San Jose State University

An on-campus sports and event center is open year-round for recreation and entertainment. Major musical artists perform regularly at the on-campus Event Center and also at the Compaq Center, which is within walking distance of SJSU. SJSU is located in the heart of downtown with many nearby recreation facilities: Cultural, historical, and performing arts sites including the San José Museum of Art, a new Repertory Theatre, and a sports arena; a Children's Museum; Great America Theme Park; several large shopping malls; beaches 45 minutes away; San Francisco one hour away; skiing 3 hours away.

CSU San Marcos

San Marcos is located just 35 miles North of downtown San Diego. The city offers the benefits of proximity to the nation's seventh largest city, San Diego, while maintaining the feel of a small suburban community. The region offers more than 70 miles of coastline, mountain ranges and desert. San Marcos is just a short distance from every conceivable activity or recreation.

The San Diego region offers both cosmopolitan sophistication and small town fee. The arts, especially theatre, play a major role in the community life of San Diegans. San Diego is also proud to be home to the largest military complex in the world. The diverse county is held together by an effective transportation network that actually connects San Diego with another country — Mexico — at the San Ysidro border crossing into Tijuana.

CSU Stanislaus

The 220-acre campus is located at the edge of the city of Turlock, a growing community of 50,000. Modesto, a city of 200,000, lies about 15 minutes to the north. Turlock is located in an agricultural region with many surrounding orchards, farms, and dairies. It has modern shopping centers, theaters, numerous banks, and a general hospital.
